THE ROLE

As the Strategic Purchaser at Damen Naval, you are responsible for contracting (strategic) systems, products, services and/or outsourcing activities according to the naval shipbuilding project plan. You develop and strengthen the relationships with existing (strategic) subcontractors and suppliers, and initiate market research to monitor and report on cost trends for the key commodities of your domain. You will also participate in project tenders by delivering mature (proposal) budgeting. You also closely collaborate and lead a team of subject matter experts (SME’s).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As the Strategic Purchaser at Damen Naval, your key responsibilities will include:

• Executing and coordinating the procurement and outsourcing of (strategic) systems, products, materials, and services and outsourcing of activities according to applicable procedures and project boundaries.
• Developing and improving professional relationships with the (strategic) supply base to secure and maintain a performing supply base and anticipate on industry changes and/or challenges which may impact the company’s business.
• Monitoring and reporting on cost trends for key commodities.
• Ensuring supplier contracts are complete, properly executed and have considered all cost variables.
• Researching, qualifying and evaluating international suppliers and sub-contractors.
• Driving improvement processes with strategic subcontractors and/or suppliers based upon supplier qualification and/or evaluation.
• Ensuring supply contingency plans are in place to mitigate performance issues from key suppliers.
• Leading a category team, defining, implementing, and executing category strategies for both strategic and non-strategic suppliers
• Providing reliable information for budget and cost price calculations.
• Developing and maintaining quotation evaluations and key figures.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

As the Strategic Purchaser , you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

• Bachelor or Master degree preferably in a technical direction and complemented with Nevi courses.
• At least ten years relevant experience preferably gained in a technical environment with complex projects and project management.
• Substantive knowledge of and experience with strategic sourcing principles.
• Strong negotiation skills and assertiveness in combination with an independent, well structured, and hands-on mentality.
• Good command of the Dutch and English language written & verbal.
• Competences: customer orientation, teamwork, results orientation, behavioural flexibility, quality orientation, planning and organising, problem analysis, decisiveness, negotiating, persuasiveness, and initiative.
• Excellent antecedents as a pre-employment security screening and investigation are a part of the recruitment procedure given the military nature of our projects.
• Permanent EU citizenship with valid EU work visa is required to be considered as a viable candidate.
