The role
As a Data Engineer (interim) at Damen Naval, you will play a key role in designing and maintaining the data infrastructure that is essential for connecting, organizing, and unlocking data across the organization. This infrastructure directly supports the production of our vessels and adds measurable value to engineering and operational processes.
Your work lays the foundation for Damen Naval’s transformation into a fully data‑driven organization by enabling informed decision‑making across all departments and management levels. In this dynamic and technologically complex environment, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure data is reliable, accessible, and seamlessly integrated into business workflows.
Key accountabilities
In this Data Engineer (interim) role, your responsibilities will include:
- Integrate, analyze, and prepare diverse data sources for the data warehouse.
- Developing and deploying ETL processes for loading data, such as Oracle Server with SSIS and SQL Server. Build and optimize data models, queries, and pipelines.
- Troubleshoot issues and provide internal technical support.
- Document ETL processes, data models, and configurations for knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to embed data solutions into business processes.
- Improve performance of reports and develop automated data processing solutions.
- Actively contribute to knowledge sharing and mentor colleagues.
Skills & experience
As a Data engineer (interim) you recognize yourself in the following profile:
- Bachelor’s degree (5–7 years experience) or Master's degree (3–5 years experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of data engineering principles, data modeling, and database design.
- Experience with data warehousing, ETL processes and optimization techniques.
- Experience with SSIS, SSAS and Power BI report Server stack on-prem. Experience working in dynamic and evolving technical environments.
- Preferably experience in the maritime, defense, or engineering sector.
- Excellent command of the English language, with proficiency in Dutch being advantageous.
- Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
