General Counsel

We’re seeking a sharp, business‑minded General Counsel to act as our primary in‑house legal expert.

You’ll guide the organisation through a wide range of legal matters — from commercial contracts and regulatory compliance to governance, risk management, and dispute resolution — with a strong focus on maritime law.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Management & Negotiation

• Draft and negotiate key commercial agreements, including BIMCO time and bareboat charters.
• Advise on risk allocation and dispute prevention.
• Support tenders with legal documentation and assist the Board in major negotiations.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

• Support compliance with IMO conventions, flag state rules, sanctions, and anti corruption laws.
• Help develop compliance policies and maintain contract/risk management systems.

Corporate Governance

• Advise on corporate structure, governance, and shareholder matters with the non executive CFO.
• Support the Management Board on legal and regulatory duties.

Cross Departmental Legal Support

• Provide daily legal guidance across commercial, procurement, HR, and project teams.
• Contribute to new ventures, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.

Dispute Resolution & Claims

• Manage disputes, claims, and insurance matters.
• Liaise with external counsel, P&I Clubs, and insurers.
• Represent the organisation in international proceedings and arbitration.

Job Requirements

• Master’s degree in Law.
• 15+ years of practical experience in international maritime law, commercial law, and regulatory frameworks, ideally gained in‑house or at a law firm, with strong expertise in BIMCO time and bareboat charter agreements.
• Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts.
• Proven experience working with external counsel, regulators, insurers, and international stakeholders.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English; additional languages are an asset.
• Proactive, precise, and collaborative working style.
• Willingness and flexibility to travel when required.
