Are you someone who enjoys working independently, takes responsibility, and ensures that students, staff, and visitors can count on a clean and pleasant environment every day? Then we are looking for you.

About UCR

Founded in 2004, University College Roosevelt is a small-scale, international liberal arts and sciences college based in the historic center of Middelburg, the Netherlands. With around 500 students, guaranteed housing, and a close-knit residential campus, UCR offers an intensive, student-centered learning environment where education is collaborative and community focused. At the heart of UCR is an open curriculum of more than 150 courses organized across six interdisciplinary clusters. UCR is located in the city center of Middelburg.

We are seeking several enthusiastic and reliable cleaning staff members to clean our buildings. A total of 1.5 FTE is available, which we intend to divide into three positions of approximately 0.5 FTE each.

What you will do

As a member of the cleaning staff, you are responsible for keeping our buildings clean, well-maintained, and presentable. You will work independently and have a high level of personal responsibility for the areas assigned to you.

Your duties will include:

  • cleaning educational, office, and general-use areas;
  • cleaning and checking sanitary facilities;
  • keeping corridors, stairwells, and other communal areas clean;
  • identifying irregularities, defects, or situations requiring extra attention;
  • performing additional cleaning tasks as needed;
  • coordinating activities with the facilities department.

This is a varied and busy role; no two days are exactly alike. We are therefore looking for someone who can independently identify what needs to be done and take responsibility for it.

Working hours

Regular working hours are determined in consultation. We aim to take into account both the work required within the buildings and the employees' availability. Additional hours and extra shifts are possible by arrangement.

Occasionally, it may be necessary to perform work outside regular hours -for example, due to activities, events, or special circumstances. This is always done in consultation.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who:

  • can work independently and is willing to take responsibility;
  • has a practical mindset and a proactive approach to work;
  • works carefully and reliably;
  • is flexible regarding working hours;
  • collaborates and coordinates effectively with the facilities department;
  • is comfortable working in an environment that can sometimes be busy;
  • is willing to work outside regular hours occasionally, in consultation;
  • has a command of Dutch and/or English at a minimum B1 level.

What we offer

We offer an independent and varied role in a unique educational environment, giving you a great deal of responsibility for your own work. We have a total of 1.5 FTE available, preferably divided among three staff members working approximately 0.5 FTE each. The exact hours and working days can be determined in consultation.

Employment conditions are governed by the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

  • A temporary employment contract for one year starting January 1, 2027, until December 31, 2027.
  • Part-time employment of 0.5 fte (19 hours per week) or possibly more.
  • Salary based on UNL scales, starting from scale 1, starting at € 3.037, - until max € 3.203, - gross per month based on fulltime (38-hours per week).
  • (Partial) commuting cost reimbursement (within the Netherlands).
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including:
    • End-of-Year Bonus (8.3%)
    • Holiday Allowance (8%)
    • Pension arrangement with ABP (https://www.abp.nl/)
    • Flexible benefits model
    • Generous leave entitlement (232 hours per year, based on full-time employment)
