THE ROLE

As the Data Scientist  at Damen Naval, you play a major role in enhancing our decision-making as well as improving our commercial success. By leveraging your analytical, statistical, and programming skills, you identify patters and insights from large amounts of data you collected. With these insights you will complement Damen Naval core- and integrator-knowledge about innovations in shipbuilding and unlock value for our customers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As the Data Scientist, your key responsibilities will include:

• Performing data analysis through data mining and/or extracting usable data from valuable data sources.
• Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms.
• Leveraging machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers.
• Processing, cleansing, and validating the integrity of (unstructured) data to be used for analysis.
• Enhancing data collection procedures to include all relevant information for developing analytic systems.
• Combining data analysis with relevant engineering models.
• Identifying patterns and solutions through analyzing large amounts of information.
• Presenting your acquired insights and proposed solutions and strategies in a clear manner.
• Collaborating with business and IT teams to ensure meaningful insights and desired solutions.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To excel as a Data Scientist, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

• 5+ years of experience delivering data-driven insights, preferably for companies in the naval/defense, shipbuilding, or maritime industry.
• Extensive experience applying data management practices and industry standards such as ISO 8000.
• Proficiency in data science tools and programming languages (Python, R, SQL).
• Experienced in machine learning, predictive modelling, and statistical analysis (A/B testing, design of experiments).
• Experience with Cloud tools (Azure Databrick, AWS, GCP).
• Bachelor or Master’s degree in IT, technical Business Administration or other relevant field.
• Experience with Data Management, preferably within large and international companies.
• Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
• Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
